Perfectionism can find its way into almost everything we do. It’s all about trying to attain the unattainable and holding yourself to unrealistic standards. As a result it causes you to criticize yourself, and possibly others, even if you put them on a pedestal. Trying to be perfect can create such deep loss because while you’re trying to reach this impossible goal, you miss out on life. This paradox reminds me a lot of theatre, because we can find ourselves acting the “perfection” instead of just allowing ourselves to be.
Creative Therapies
Creative therapies interweave creativity, growth and healing. It allows you to bring some light into the sometimes heavy process of self-exploration which helps you to connect to your body in order to heal.
Acting Towards Insight
I like to turn this “acting” on its head by using creative therapies like drama therapy, movement, sand tray, and visual arts. They help us gain a deeper sense of all the parts of your story. Whether it’s pretending to be a family member to gain perspective on their experience, or rehearsing for an upcoming job interview, we’ll actively explore different angles in addition to talking through it. Not only are these techniques fun, they can lead to many important and meaningful breakthroughs.
